Boyarka Forest Research Station
Separated subdivision of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine – Boyarka Forest Research Station (BFRS) serves as an educational, scientific and production base for training of highly qualified specialists for the forest sector. The enterprise combines forestry, education and research activities, and serves as a center were students receive practical training, and researchers carry out experimental studies. BFRS also provides a set of traditional forestry activities: reforestation, pest management and fire management. The most successful results of research studies are implemented into forestry everyday practice.
Our mission is to advance forestry science and sustainable land management through rigorous research, education, and innovation—focusing on understanding ecosystem dynamics and enhancing forest health, optimizing sustainable forestry technologies, including fire prevention and carbon sequestration, educating future forestry specialists and engaging the community in reforestation efforts.
Our vision is to emerge as a leading center of excellence for resilient forest ecosystem research in Eastern Europe, by pioneering advanced practices in forest restoration, ecological modeling, and fire hazard mitigation, expanding biodiversity conservation and forest protection for enhanced ecological services, shaping a sustainable forestry paradigm that addresses climate change, fosters ecosystem resilience, and inspires environmental stewardship.
Role in Landshift:
Our main role in LandShift is to contribute our knowledge in the area of remote sensing and sustainable forest management. In the LandShift project, we are engaged in the WP1 (T1.1, T1.2, T1.4, T1.5), WP2 (T2.1), WP3 (T3.1, T3.3, T3.4, T3.5), WP4 (T4.1, T4.2, T4.3, T4.5), WP5 (T5.5), WP6 (T6.1, T6.2, T6.3, T6.5) and WP7 (T7.1 – T7.5). Together with our Ukrainian partners we aim to identify challenges within the Kyiv Region Living Space (LS), engage a wide range of stakeholders, and develop and implement nature-based solutions (NBS) tailored to the region’s needs. We aim to strengthen the consortium’s capacity to develop data-informed and sustainable solutions for strategic land use throughout Europe.
