Research Institute of Organic Agriculture - FiBL

The Research Institute of Organic Agriculture FiBL is one of the world’s leading institutes in organic agriculture. Based in Switzerland, FiBL conducts interdisciplinary research, provides practical advisory services, and contributes to education and international cooperation for sustainable agriculture. FiBL’s strength lies in its close collaboration with farmers, advisory services, and the food industry, ensuring that innovations are practical and directly applicable. With extensive expertise in agroecology, systems analysis, and participatory research methods, FiBL supports transitions toward more sustainable food systems. Its longstanding commitment to environmental and societal well-being makes it a highly relevant partner for the LandShift project, particularly in analyzing and co-developing sustainable land-use pathways.

Role in LandShift

FiBL leads the development and application of the Food System Model (SOLm) to assess regionally differentiated and sustainable land-use and food system strategies. FiBL is responsible for integrating data on food production, consumption, trade, and environmental impacts to model future scenarios under varying policy and climate conditions. This includes the design and analysis of scenarios in close collaboration with other WPs and regional stakeholders, providing key inputs to support decision-making on sustainable pathways.
